Thompson speaks

General Manager Ted Thompson is set to take the podium for his weekly media conference in a few minutes.

I think it's safe to say we've passed the point of word-for-word, up-to-the-second transcription (at least for now), but I'll post the highlights here. Refresh for the latest.

* On KGB: "We kind of know what Kabeer brings to the table, but he's been struggling with getting all the way back (from knee surgery). ... We don't feel like we need to rush him."

* Not looking at veteran QBs any more than other positions. "We like our two young guys, and we think they're on a steady path here. ... We feel pretty good."

* Bothered by any criticism through the entire Brett Favre saga? "You could call people in Russia and they'd give you an opinion on this one. ... No, I don't think so."

* DTs Ryan Pickett and Justin Harrell are on active PUP, so they count against the 80. They also are eligible for the reserve PUP. Getting antsy about Harrell? "With everybody, you like to see more out of them. But we go by our doctors' advice, and he's making progress, and we feel pretty good about it."

* Considering KGB's age and surgery, need to see on field? No, know what kind of player he is. But are anxious to get him out there like everyone else.

* How see competition at guard spots? Very competitive. Very excited about group. "And I don't know how it's going to turn out."

* When expect to see Ryan Grant back from his hamstring injury? Concerned? "Not overly so, no. Again, we're going to be cautious with that."

* How difficult for Jordy Nelson to get playing time? "We feel pretty good about our group at wide receiver" as well as Nelson's contributions. "Our coaching staff will figure out a way to get him in the game." Want to see more as returner? Catches ball well, good instincts with ball, also bigger, stronger guy than average receiver. Thought did good job on Monday.

* When decide how many at each position? Know minimums now, but don't have absolutes. Special teams is a huge factor towards bottom of 53.

Only 11 minutes today. How things have changed ...

Practice is at 6:30 p.m. Back with updates then.
