Grant provides experience, depth in a thin backfield

The Green Bay Packers still think halfback James Starks might get healthy in time to help them this season.

But the knee injury Starks sustained last week against the Minnesota Vikings probably will keep him out long enough that general manager Ted Thompson this week signed Ryan Grant as a backup halfback.

But Starks' injury, a deep bone bruise, wasn't bad enough to land him on injured reserve. The Packers instead made room for Grant on the 53-man roster by placing backup halfback Johnny White on injured reserve because of a concussion. ...
