One thing you can say about 'Fast & Furious 6': It makes you appreciate the talents of Dwayne Johnson.
'Epic' isn't especially. Oh, it's not horrible. The film looks terrific, with a fantastical forest coming to 3-D life. Swooping birds, flying arrows and more make good use of the technology.
'Daring' isn't a word you would use very much to describe 'The Hangover Part II,' the disappointingly lazy, beat-for-beat rehash of the wild original 'Hangover' from 2009. And yet, here we are with 'Part III,' which runs a different sort of risk by going to darker and more dangerous places than its predecessors, both artistically and emotionally. It dares to alienate the very audience that made 'The Hangover' the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time.
'Star Trek: Into Darkness' has warped its way to a $70.6 million domestic launch from Friday to Sunday, though it's not setting any light-speed records with a debut that's lower than the studio's expectations.
The giddiness of 'Star Trek' is gone, but 'Star Trek Into Darkness' maintains its love of character and pathos, the other great selling points of this re-booted sci-fi franchise. There's action in abundance and some production design flourishes that are as eye-popping as any science fiction ever to hit the screen.
Can a movie marathon possibly be too fast and too furious?
'The Great Gatsby' wasn't the No. 1 film at the box office this past weekend, but Warner Bros. executives may be breaking out the bubbly anyway.
