He was kicked off the University of Florida football team after three seasons and three arrests, including two for marijuana possession. The other was a bar fight.     Upshaw: Being tough and physical is something I love to do

    INDIANAPOLIS – If the Green Bay Packers had their pick of the outside linebacker litter in the NFL Draft, Alabama’s Courtney Upshaw would be right near the top of the list. At 6-foot-1, 272 pounds, Upshaw is a physical specimen that is visibly thick. He was one of the nation’s top players for the National Champion Crimson Tide.     SC DE/OLB Melvin Ingram holds Combine media session

    INDIANAPOLIS – South Carolina DE/OLB Melvin Ingram held his media session at the NFL Combine on Saturday. He is considered one of the top pass rushers on the board and one of the better athletes. At 6-foot-1, 264 pounds, Ingram can do a standing backflip and used to play point guard in high school. Before SC, he played on both sides of the ball, including quarterback, receiver and running back. He has played linebacker in college, but finished his career as a defensive end.

    UW QB Wilson says height not a factor at all

    INDIANAPOLIS – Badgers quarterback Russell Wilson officially measured at 5-foot-11 at the NFL combine. He was the nations most efficient quarterback with a 191.78 rating as he threw for  3,175 yards, 33 touchdowns and four interceptions with a 72.8 completion percentage. Wilson also ran for 338 yards and six touchdowns.

    Franchise period begins today

    The NFL franchise tag period began today and will run through March 5. Teams have the option of placing the tag on one player set to hit free agency. It is a one year deal. The salary was previously calculated by the average of the top-five highest paid contracts at that position from the previous year. A new complicated formula was written into the new CBA and, in part, incorporates the tag numbers from the last five years.
