JEFFERSON COUNTY - An inmate in the Jefferson County Detention Facility was found dead in his cell Thursday.
Harley Jefferson Smith,32, was found at 6:05 p.m. hanging in his cell by a detentions deputy during a routine walk-thru.
Sheriff's deputies immediately began administering CPR. Medical staff in the jail responded to provide additional help.
Smith was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.
He was being held on traffic charges and was booked into the jail on Wednesday at 12:20 p.m.
His death is being investigated by the sheriff's office and an autopsy will be conducted by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
This is the fourth in-custody death in the Jefferson County Detention Facility in 2015. One death was medical in nature and the others were due to suicide.
