Lovie Smith is out as coach of the Chicago Bears.

The team finally announced the firing of Smith around 11 p.m. today after a 10-6 season that saw the Bears just miss out on the playoffs on the final day of the regular season.

Multiple sources had reported that Smith was fired before the team had announced the decision today.

The Bears started out the season 7-1 but finished poorly, going 4-5 down the stretch to miss out on the playoffs for the second straight year.
