MADISON — Madison police say the estranged husband of a homicide victim has been found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police searched the home of Bernard Grosso after 31-year-old Jennifer Boyce was found dead in an east side apartment. Boyce was due in court Friday to finalize a divorce from Grosso.

Police spokesman Joel DeSpain says the woman suffered multiple injuries and died Wednesday morning — a day before an apartment manager discovered her body.

DeSpain says the body of her estranged husband was found when officers searched his house overnight. Police say the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide. He says a loaded assault rifle and another firearm were recovered from the home.

Relatives say Boyce was an epidemiologist who worked for the state Division of Public Health.
