Debit card proposed for child care subsidy

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker's administration is proposing that low-income parents enrolled in state-subsidized child care use a debit card to pay for it.

Currently, the state pays providers directly for caring for the children of participants in the Wisconsin Shares child care program. Walker's administration says putting the child care payments in the hands of parents promotes responsibility and could fight fraud.
