Childhood lesson about poachers paved way for new warden

Jake Donar was just a southern Wisconsin kid when his career path to become a conservation warden arrived in an eye-opening lesson about poachers.

"When I was 12, I remember learning about poachers and thinking, 'That's just wrong.' Those people are taking something that doesn't belong to them and hurting the resource," Donar said. "And I wanted to do something about that."

And Donar will as the new Department of Natural Resources conservation warden of the Bureau of Law Enforcement's Madison team, based in the department's South Central Region headquarters in Fitchburg. ...
