Wisconsin Rapids public and private schools were put on lockdown for a little more than half an hour Wednesday morning as a precaution after a suspicious package was found at the Centralia Center, authorities said.

The Wisconsin Rapids police and fire departments and the Wood County Sheriff's Department responded to a call regarding the package at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the center, 220 Third Ave. S., which is adjacent to the Rapids Mall.
