Last week's sudden warm spell created a flurry of activity outdoors as creatures large and small responded to the arrival of warm temperatures and bright, sunny skies.

Sturgeon began to spawn as water temperatures hit the key mark. Butterflies began to flit about in the sunny woodlands and serpents began to rise from their dark wintering dens to bask in the warm sun and to find mates.

As temperatures suddenly soared above 80 degrees, thousands of snakes emerged from their wintering dens beneath the ground or among rocky, limestone ledges across our area and set out to return to their summer ...
