A Wisconsin pilot has safely guided his plane to an emergency landing in a cornfield near a federal prison in western Indiana.

The Vigo County Sheriff's Department says the landing occurred Thursday afternoon south of Terre Haute. It says neither the pilot, Lee Schmalz, nor his passenger, Joe Kobuffen, were injured. Both are from Kaukaune, Wisc.

Schmalz told sheriff's deputies they were en route from Wisconsin to Mississippi when the aircraft encountered complete engine failure.
