Wood County officials want residents to know that the Women, Infants and Children Program is still open, despite the federal shutdown.

The Wood County Health Department encourages families to continue to come to WIC for nutrition and breastfeeding services, said Amber France, a nutrition and lactation program supervisor for the Health Department, in a news release. At this point, the department has enough funds to get through the month.

People can still apply for benefits and pickup up checks for food assistance, and businesses can still cash the checks to be reimbursed, according to the news release.
