Eagle River area:

The leaves have come off the brush in the Eagle River area. This is great news for all hunters. From now on, it will be much easier to get a shot at flushing grouse or woodcock, and to see deer and turkeys.

The ruffed grouse have dispersed from their family coveys, and will be spread out in the best cover, making it more likely that hunters will find birds. With the leaves down, this means dense stands of young aspen and alder. Hunters are reporting better than expected numbers of grouse. ...
