Sam Springsteen is now one of Jersey City’s bravest.
Springsteen, the youngest child of Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa, has become a member of the Jersey City Fire Department, according to a Thursday, Aug. 1 post on Scialfa’s Instagram account.
“CONGRATULATIONS,” posted a proud Scialfa, with a flames emoji. “You followed your dreams ... JC firefighter .. Stay safe .. love your brave heart.”

Sam, 25, took a civil service exam last year to become a member of the department. He graduated from the Monmouth County Fire Academy in 2014 and has since served with his hometown Colts Neck Fire Department, the Long Branch Fire Department and the North Wildwood Fire Department, where he assisted in saving a fisherman who was stuck waist deep in the mud adjacent to Phillip Shields Island in 2016, according to the Cape May County Herald.
“He’s very smart,” said Monmouth County Fire Marshal Henry Stryker III about Sam to the USA TODAY NETWORK New Jersey when he graduated the Monmouth County academy. “He enjoyed what he was doing.”
Bruce and Patti’s other kids have higher profile lives. Evan Springsteen, 29, is program director and host for Sirius XM satellite radio and Jessica Springsteen, 27, is a champion equestrian rider who’s earned more than $1 million in events around the world.
Patti has called Sam “Our family hero.”
