Packers-Vikings Christmas Eve game a cheaper ticket
GREEN BAY - What could be the most important game on the Green Bay Packers' schedule this season also has the cheapest home-field tickets.
It's early, but it's fair to expect the Minnesota Vikings and the Packers will play for the NFL North Division title on Christmas Eve at Lambeau Field. It is the next-to-last regular season game for the 4-0 Vikings and the 2-1 Packers.
The median price for Vikings tickets was $270 on Wednesday, compared to $398 for the Dallas game on Oct. 16, which was the most expensive.
"The biggest factor is Christmas Eve," said Dennis Garrity, president/CEO of Event USA in Ashwaubenon. "That's quite a deterrent, especially for our company that caters to fans from all over the country. Other holidays are not as much of a factor."
Adam Clemence of VividSeats said prices across the NFL are lower on Christmas Eve.
"It could also be (Packers) fans holding onto tickets, but based on what I'm seeing, I'm inclined to say it's more Christmas Eve," Clemence said.
Prices probably will increase as the game gets closer and if the Vikings and Packers vie for the division lead.
"On paper, that should be a monster game," Garrity said. "Vikings fans will travel, and they will definitely travel now that they beat the Packers (at Lambeau) last year."
The Cowboys always sell well at Lambeau Field, but the added attraction this year is the ceremony to unveil Brett Favre's name on the ring of honor on the stadium façade in recognition of his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
"Dallas is the Brett Favre factor," Garrity said.
According to VividSeats, the least expensive nonstanding-room-only ticket listed Thursday for the Dallas game was $226, compared to $117 for the New York Giants game and $128 for the Vikings game.
Other median prices from VividSeats include $275 for the Giants, $333 for the Chicago Bears on Oct. 20, $390 for the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 6, $294 for the Houston Texans on Dec. 4 and $300 for the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 11.
Chris Leyden of SeatGeek said the current average resale price for the Giants game is $282, which makes it the fourth most in-demand home game of the season. It is the most in-demand game in the NFL this week, topping Jets at Steelers, which has an average resale price of $240.
