ASHWAUBENON – The Green Bay Packers paid nearly $1.5 million this year for six properties in Ashwaubenon.

The team is buying land along the south side of the Brookwood Drive to build townhouses as part of its Titletown District development. The team has said it will build up to 70 townhouses as part of the commercial/retail/residential/recreational development. Most of the properties are duplexes.

The Packers bought 1097-1099 Brookwood, 1103-1105 Brookwood and 1113-1115 Brookwood for $243,500 each. They paid $269,000 for 1960 Orrie Lane, $255,500 for 1169-1171 Brookwood and $228,500 for 1963 Orrie Lane.

The Packers paid $1.48 million for just more than 1.5 acres with those six purchases.

The team has paid $60 million for just under 75 acres west, east and south of Lambeau Field since 1975. Most of the purchases have been in the last 10 years.

The land, all in Ashwaubenon, was valued at more than $47 million based on 2015 assessments. Taxes on the properties were $991,574 in 2015.

The team has been meeting with builders on their residential development plans, which also could include condos and an apartment building. It has not provided details.

Interest in living in the Titletown District prompted the Packers to acquire the additional Brookwood Drive properties, as did a desire to have more variety in prices and to have similar buildings on each side of the street. The Packers' Ed Policy, who is leading the development, envisions urban-style, side-by-side buildings with stoops close to the street.

Residences on the north side of the street, with backyards or terraces adjacent to the park, would be the more expensive units. Residences on the south side of Brookwood Drive would be less expensive, and apartments could be in the mix somewhere.

Titletown District is a 35-acre development bounded primarily by South Ridge Road, Lombardi Avenue, Brookwood Drive and Marlee Lane. Its anchors include Lodge Kohler hotel, Hinterland Brewery and Bellin Health Sports Medicine and Orthopedics clinic, all of which are expected to open by the start of the 2017 NFL season. Ten acres in the middle of the development will be a park and plaza that will include a tubing hill, skating pond and trail, playgrounds and other amenities.
