GREEN BAY – Former Green Bay Packers players George Koonce and Eric Torkelson have been nominated to join the team's board of directors.

Also, Donald J. Long Jr. was proposed to join the team's seven-member executive committee.

Packers shareholders will vote on new board members during their annual meeting at 11 a.m. July 24 at Lambeau Field. The board of directors will vote on the executive committee nomination in August.

Leaving active status on the board will be Thomas Olejniczak, who also is an executive committee member, and Thomas Lutsey. They will have reached the mandatory retirement age of 70. Olejniczak and Lutsey both joined the board in 1986. Olejniczak was named to the executive committee in 2013.

Koonce played linebacker for the Packers from 1992 to 1999. He is senior vice president for university relations at Marian University in Fond du Lac. Torkelson was a Packers running back from 1974 to 1979 and 1981. He is a retired sales representative for Stryker Corp., a medical device company.

The 43-member board of directors includes three former players: Johnnie Gray, Larry McCarren and Dexter McNabb.

Long, a board member since 2012, is the former CEO and owner of Century Drill & Tool Co. in Ashwaubenon. He is a member of the audit, foundation, and sales and marketing committees.

The seven-member executive committee serves as overseer and adviser to team President and CEO Mark Murphy.

Executive committee members are selected by the board from within its own members,   but Murphy, as did former team president Bob Harlan before him, has a say in who is proposed.

Members of the board of directors represent the organization's 360,760 shareholders as well as fans. All directors are appointed to at least one committee, giving each a chance to be involved. Board members receive no compensation, including no free tickets to games.

The board meets about five times a year, including the annual meeting in July. The executive committee meets monthly, or as often as needed.

Executive committee members are chosen for their skills and experience, often meeting certain needs of the committee. The committee includes one current and two former manufacturing CEOs, a banker and a public relations CEO, and at least three have law degrees, including Murphy.

The shareholders meeting will take place rain or shine. Last year, thunderstorms interrupted the meeting, causing it to be conducted in the Lambeau Field media auditorium. It was the first time inclement weather disrupted the meeting.

Shareholders will receive four tickets to the meeting for each shareholder account. Information on obtaining tickets was included in proxy materials mailed to shareholders.
