DE PERE – Green Bay native and ESPN "SportsCenter" anchor John Anderson will receive the Distinguished Service Award at this year's Lee Remmel Sports Awards Banquet.
Also receiving awards will be Mason Appleton, right wing with the Winnipeg Jets of the NHL and a Green Bay Notre Dame graduate; retired University of Wisconsin Marching Band director Michael Leckrone; and high school athletes Olivia Fabry of De Pere and John Zakowski of Green Bay Southwest. A collegiate award recipient will be announced later.

Anderson graduated from Green Bay Southwest High School in 1983 and the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1987. We worked at television stations in Tulsa, Okla., and Phoenix before joining ESPN and "SportsCenter" in 1999.
He also co-hosted the ABC-TV series Wipeout.
The awards banquet, established by De Pere Rotary Club in 1998, is named after longtime Green Bay Press-Gazette sports reporter and Green Bay Packers public relations director Lee Remmel, who died in 2015.
Proceeds from the banquet go to scholarships to area college and high school students.
