Press-Gazette, Wood earn Top 10 APSE honors

The Green Bay Press-Gazette and Packers beat writer Ryan Wood earned Top 10 honors in a 2016 contest judged this past week by the Associated Press Sports Editors.

Competing in Category C (30,000 to 75,000 circulation/250,000 to 750,000 unique monthly website visitors), the Press-Gazette received Top 10 recognition for its daily sports section, and also for its digital and mobile platforms (, and the PackersNews app).

Wood was honored in the Breaking News category for his exclusive story on Packers defensive lineman B.J. Raji’s decision to walk away from the game. He also was recognized in the Projects category for a series of four stories analyzing year-to-year data that studied trends and issues involving Packers general manager Ted Thompson’s NFL draft decisions. reporter Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel earned Top 10 honors for Features in Category B (75,000 to 175,000 circulation). Cohen was honored for a story about former Packers tight end Jermichael Finley and his adjustment to life after football.
