Former Ware County standout Ernest Jones is heading for California.

The Los Angeles Rams drafted the South Carolina linebacker in the third round at No. 103 overall on Friday night.

Jones led South Carolina in tackles this year, developing into a prolific tackler with excellent range during his Gamecocks career.

He becomes the second player from the Jacksonville area drafted in 2021, following Bolles quarterback Mac Jones to the New England Patriots.

With the Rams, Ernest Jones joins a growing contingent of players with area ties, including cornerback Darious Williams (Creekside) and quarterback John Wolford (Bishop Kenny).

He also becomes the highest-drafted player from Ware County since cornerback Leodis McKelvin went to the Buffalo Bills at No. 11 in the 2008 NFL Draft.
