The Tennessee Titans drafted Arkansas football receiver Treylon Burks in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft on Thursday. The Titans picked Burks 18th overall, making him the highest draft pick since Frank Ragnow went No. 20 in 2018.

In 2021 Burks was the fourth player in Arkansas history with more than 1,000 passing yards in a single season and the first since 2012. He accounted for more than a third of Arkansas' receiving yards and half its receiving touchdowns.

Now, Burks has a chance to make his mark on the professional ranks. Here's what the Titans are getting in their newest receiver.

The positives

Burks is unique because of his size. At 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, Burks was the heaviest among wideouts on most draft boards. His frame allows him to barrel through smaller defensive backs and operate almost like a running back in space.

Arkansas' offense led the SEC in rushing last season, so Burks got plenty of reps as a run blocker in addition to his receiving prowess.

The concerns

Some draft experts balked at Burks' NFL combine numbers, particularly his 40-yard dash time. He ran a 4.55, which was 22nd out of 32 receivers who ran. He matched that time at Arkansas' pro day not long after.

But Burks' build means he's not likely to burn quick defensive backs on every play. His skillset is his ability to use his size.

Final thoughts

Burks needs the his style and advantages to be used in the NFL. If he's forced into a traditional receiver role, he might not flourish the way he did in college. If his new team is willing to use and improve his skillset, he can succeed as an NFL receiver.
