Arizona Cardinals will be NFL's hottest free agent destination in 2020, NFL analyst says
The Arizona Cardinals may have only gone 5-10-1 last season, but one NFL analyst thinks the team won over a lot of potential future players in the process.
The NFL Network's Peter Schrager on Tuesday called Arizona "the hottest destination for free agents this offseason."
He didn't said "one of the hottest" or "among the hottest." He called them "the hottest," citing quarterback Kyler Murray and coach Kliff Kingsbury among the reasons.
His complete remarks: "The Arizona Cardinals are going to be the hottest offseason destination for free agents this offseason," Schrager said. "Kyler Murray’s a young quarterback, Kliff Kingsbury’s a player-friendly coach, the environment — you’re living in the sun — and they’ve got a ton of money to spend.
"They’re young, Kliff is not trying to be a dictator … he’s showing that you can be nice to the players and the veterans can experience both fun and have possible success."
"Cool new offense. Arizona Cardinals. Not the Chiefs. Not the 49ers. Arizona Cardinals will be the hot spot — not the Vegas Raiders — for a lot of free agents this offseason."
The Cardinals are projected to be big spenders in free agency and they will have a lot of money to spend, if they want too.
The team currently has more than $50 million in salary cap space.
Where could they use that money?
Offensive tackle, edge rusher, cornerback and wide receiver are a few of the positions that could use some help for the team in free agency, although the team could also address those positions in the NFL draft.
Many recent NFL mock draft projections have the Cardinals taking an offensive tackle with their first pick at No. 8, although wide receiver is also a trendy pick for the team with that selection.
Both of those players could potentially command a lot of money in free agency and so Arizona could face questions about attempting to bring them back.
