Hard Knocks: Arizona Cardinals among five eligible teams for HBO NFL show in 2021
The Arizona Cardinals have never appeared on HBO's Hard Knocks.
Could that change in 2021?
There's a 20% chance.
Kliff Kingsbury's team is one of five teams eligible for the show, which chronicles an NFL team's preparations for the season, in 2021.
Teams are eligible if they don't have a first-year head coach, haven't made the playoffs in either of the previous two seasons and have not appeared on the show in the previous 10 seasons.
The Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Carolina Panthers are the other four teams that meet the criteria to be selected for the show next season.
The Cardinals were also eligible for the show last season, but HBO ended up featuring both the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers in their new stadium.
"We're always going to listen to everything," Cardinals president Michael Bidwill told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM last February about the possibility the team might do the show last season. "We'll see what comes up.
"I think we've done a good job of being available and volunteering to do things, like 'All or Nothing.' So we'll see where we end up."
Kingsbury will be in his third season in 2021. The Cardinals haven't been to the NFL playoffs since 2015 and they have never been on the show.
The Cardinals were featured on Amazon's "All or Nothing" series during the team's 2015 regular season.
Arizona would appear to be a great choice for the show in 2021, but the Dallas Cowboys, with Dak Prescott returning from his injury last season, would have to be considered the favorite for the show.
HBO executives are probably salivating at getting Jerry Jones' team on the show again.
The Cowboys were last featured on Hard Knocks in 2008. The Broncos, Giants and Panthers have never been featured on the show.
