J.J. Watt has connections to the Arizona Cardinals' DeAndre Hopkins and defensive coordinator Vance Joseph from their days with the Houston Texans.

But could his connection with another Cardinals player also have been key to his signing in Arizona?

ESPN NFL reporter Ed Werder tweeted out an interesting nugget after Watt's surprising pick of Arizona on Monday.

"I was told JJ Watt’s first criteria in choosing his team would be the quality of the quarterback. So this seems an endorsement of @K1 (Kyler Murray)," Werder tweeted.

Murray welcomed Watt to Arizona by posting a photo of them with current Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns from six years ago.

"6 years ago.. my senior year of HS. Welcome to AZ! Let’s get it! @JJWatt," he tweeted.

The Cardinals went 8-8 last season in Murray's second season in Arizona.

The Cardinals went 5-10-1 in Murray's rookie season after he was the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft.

J.J. Watt apparently likes what he sees in Kyler Murray. That's a pivotal reason he chose the Arizona Cardinals, according to one NFL reporter.

On Saturday, the Cardinals tweeted out an interesting tidbit about Murray's first two seasons.

He is the first player in NFL history with more than 7,500 passing yards, 45 touchdown passes and 15 touchdown runs in his first two NFL seasons.

That couldn't have hurt Watt in making his decision to join the Cardinals.
