Burnett inactive; Hyde starts at safety

The Green Bay Packers will open their season Sunday at the Chicago Bears without starting strong safety Morgan Burnett.
Burnett didn't practice last week after missing the Packers’ preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints with a calf injury. Micah Hyde, usually the team's nickel back, will start at safety in Burnett's absence. The rotation could open more snaps for Casey Hayward at nickel, and for first-round rookie cornerback Damarious Randall on the perimeter opposite Sam Shields.
Burnett's injury was one of many to key players during training camp — including receiver Jordy Nelson’s season-ending ACL tear — but the team’s 53-man roster is relatively healthy for Week 1. Burnett is the only player on the Packers' active roster who will miss today's opener. Receiver Randall Cobb, who sprained his right shoulder in the Packers’ third preseason game, will play after being listed as probable entering Sunday. Inside linebacker Sam Barrington (ankle) also will play after being listed as questionable.
Along with Burnett, the Packers' six other inactives Sunday are quarterback Brett Hundley, cornerback LaDarius Gunter, running back Alonzo Harris, outside linebacker Andy Mulumba, guard Lane Taylor and tight end Kennard Backman. The Packers will keep five receivers on their 46-man game day roster, including second-year wideout Jeff Janis. After spending last season with the Oakland Raiders, James Jones will also get his first game in a Packers uniform since 2013.
The Bears inactives: linebacker Jon Bostic, cornerback Tracy Porter, running back Ka'Deem Carey, center Hroniss Grasu, quarterback David Fales. tackle Tayo Fabuluje and wide receiver Cam Meredith. Bears wide receivers Alshon Jeffrey, Eddie Royal and Marquess Wilson all are active.
