Gannett Wisconsin Media’s Brett Christopherson caught up with Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb, who shared his thoughts on Sunday’s 27-20 victory over the San Diego Chargers:

You’re 6-0 heading into a much-needed bye week. How would you assess the season so far?

RC: Well, we’re undefeated, so that’s a great season and a great start to our year. The most important thing is wins. We’ve played at high levels in some games and not to our full potential in others. But collectively as a team, we’re getting the job done. And that’s the most important.

The offense got off to a fast start against the Chargers, scoring 17 points on its first three offensive possessions before hitting a lull. While the production was solid in that you scored 27 points on just 49 offensive plays, what needs to happen to achieve more consistency on that side of the ball?

RC: Just continuing to move the sticks. The biggest thing for us that I don’t think we did a great job of this past week was on third downs. There was many an occasion where we went three-and-out. And we can’t have that as an offense, especially when our defense is playing as well as it did, and special teams was putting us in great position. It’s on us to be able to continue those drives and continue to use the clock, eat up some of those minutes and put points on the board.

Jeff Janis finished with two catches for 79 yards and showcased his hustle and speed in coming up with a big downfield block on James Starks’ 65-yard touchdown run. How much improvement have you seen in Janis’ development this season? And how close is he to being a key contributor to the offense?

RC: I think he’s really close. He has to continue to do what he has been doing in practice and in games. And when he gets those opportunities, he has been able to make the plays for Aaron (Rodgers) like he did this past week. He’s a good player. He’s got the ability. He has the opportunity to be something special. I think that as long as he continues to believe in himself, he can do it. It’s just going to take time building that trust with Aaron. But we definitely need that from him, especially with the injuries we’ve had. We need Jeff to be able to step up and make some plays.

You’ve been battling through a shoulder injury you suffered during the preseason. How is that shoulder feeling six weeks into the season? And how close to 100 percent will you be with that shoulder coming out of the bye?

RC: There’s no such thing as 100 percent in the NFL. But definitely having a few days to rest will be a good thing. I think it’ll help me progress. I don’t know. I can’t say that I’ll be 100 percent, but I know I’ll be feeling better, and I’ll look forward to having this time to rest and recover and get ready for the second half of the season.

The wide receiver corps has been battling injury all season. Are you getting antsy to see what that group can do once healthy and finally on the field together?

RC: Definitely. Hopefully, we can get Davante (Adams) back soon. Hopefully, Ty’s (Montgomery) injury isn’t too serious. And obviously myself, continuing to progress and J.J. (James Jones) continuing to progress — getting everybody as close to full health as we go into the second part of the season. That’s important for us because we have so many playmakers, and it provides us with so many different opportunities to use different formation sets and different personnel groupings to be able to attack defenses.
