GREEN BAY - Guard T.J. Lang was back on the field Monday night, the first of the Green Bay Packers' six players on the PUP list to be activated.

Lang, who underwent shoulder surgery after the season, had been held out of practice mostly as a precautionary move and said last week that he expected to be back no later than Monday. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said all indications were that Lang was close to being cleared to practice in pads prior to the night workout, but he offered no updates on the rest of the group.

"The only thing I have an update on is I think T.J. Lang is getting close," McCarthy said. "Other than that, nothing has changed with the other five."

Asked if he thought Lang might be able to play Sunday night against Indianapolis in the Hall of Fame game, McCarthy repeated what he had just said.

"He’s getting close to getting on the practice field is the message from the training staff today," he said.

Lang took part in individual drills only and sat out the 11-on-11s. It's likely he'll be eased into practicing in pads and that Lane Taylor will take the majority of reps at left guard this week.

The players who are still on PUP are: receiver Jordy Nelson, tight end Jared Cook, receiver Ty Montgomery, linebacker Sam Barrington and center Corey Linsley.

McCarthy said the team did not suffer any injuries in its practice Sunday night at Lambeau Field, but one veteran who sat out was running back James Starks, who said that he had suffered cramps at the end of the Sunday night practice. Starks said he didn't think it was serious, but the medical staff apparently decided to sit him for a day.

McCarthy wouldn't say why tackle Josh James missed the Sunday practice, but James said he aggravated a hamstring injury that he had suffered during his pro day.
