GREEN BAY - The Packers were forced to move inside the Don Hutson Center after an afternoon shower hit just before the start of their first practice since the roster was cut down to 53 players.

The rain brought the humidity level up considerably, giving the Packers a better feel for what it would be like Sunday in Jacksonville. Coach Mike McCarthy had the doors and gates shut, presumably to help things get a little steamier.

Three players were not participating in the workout — S Chris Banjo (hamstring), OLB Jayrone Elliott (hamstring) and CB Josh Hawkins (hamstring).

Wide receiver Trevor Davis, who injured his right shoulder against Kansas City Thursday night, was taking part in the individual drills the media was allowed to watch. How much he did after that isn't known, but McCarthy said it was unlikely Davis would be able to play this week. But the fact he was able to practice some was probably a good sign.

Wide receiver Jeff Janis practiced with a club on his right hand as expected. He will be trying to show the coaches that he can function on special teams and deserves to be active Sunday.

Wide receiver Jordy Nelson was a full participant and ran routes with the No. 1 offense in the pre-practice drills. Nelson caught several passes from QB Aaron Rodgers, but the drill was not run with defenders in place.

As McCarthy stated Monday, Lane Taylor replaced Josh Sitton at left guard. Don Barclay received his first significant snaps at guard, a position he may have to man if either Taylor or T.J. Lang get hurt. Barclay played center behind JC Tretter all through training camp.
