Practice report: TE Perillo out with injury

GREEN BAY — With rain showers lingering, the Green Bay Packers practiced inside Wednesday for the second consecutive day. And much like Tuesday, the conditions inside the Don Hutson Center were swampy.
Cornerback Josh Hawkins, safety Chris Banjo and outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott were still sidelined by hamstring injuries, and their participation this weekend grows less likely by the day. Rookie wide receiver Trevor Davis (shoulder) was in pads Wednesday but did not take any team reps.
New to the injury list was tight end Justin Perillo, who worked out along the sideline with other injured players. Perillo hurt his knee in the exhibition finale against the Kansas City Chiefs but remained on the field after the initial incident. He told a reporter he "would be fine" in the locker room after the game, and it is not known if Wednesday's injury is related to the knee issue.
If Perillo is unable to play Sunday, the Packers only have two other tight ends on the active roster. Jared Cook and Richard Rodgers would share playing time — which was going to be the plan anyway — but the absence of a healthy backup might make coach Mike McCarthy reconsider his substitution patterns or how frequently he employs two-tight end formations.
The Packers also announced a transaction Wednesday morning. General manager Ted Thompson signed tight end Devon Cajuste to the practice squad and released inside linebacker Beniquez Brown. Cajuste, who played at Stanford and spent training camp with the San Francisco 49ers, arrived in Green Bay earlier in the week but Wednesday was his first day on the official roster.
Guard Lucas Patrick, another member of the practice squad, went through practice without a club on his hand for the first time in weeks. Patrick suffered a significant injury early in training camp but never missed a day. He wore the club in practice and during games.
