Packers inactives: Banjo, Elliot out; Davis up
MINNEAPOLIS - The Green Bay Packers will be without two of their leading special teams players for the second consecutive week when they face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.
Outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott (hamstring) and safety Chris Banjo (hamstring) were among the six players on the inactive list after being sidelined for the season opener against Jacksonville a week ago. Both players were hurt during the exhibition season and have not practiced since.
Elliott and Banjo are core special teamers for coordinator Ron Zook, who will once again be forced to play less-experienced players on his units. Their absence leaves inside linebacker Joe Thomas and fullback Aaron Ripkowski as resident leaders. Look for rookie safeties Kentrell Brice and Marwin Evans to contribute heavily as well.

Cornerbacks Josh Hawkins (hamstring) and Sam Shields (concussion) are also out after failing to practice all week. Shields, who suffered his fifth documented concussion in Jacksonville, was ruled out Saturday afternoon. Hawkins tweaked his hamstring in the final exhibition game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Quarterback Joe Callahan and rookie offensive tackle Kyle Murphy are the only healthy players on the inactive list. Callahan, who is third on the depth chart behind Aaron Rodgers and Brett Hundley, is likely to be inactive for every game barring injury. Murphy, a sixth-round pick from Stanford, was inactive against the Jaguars as well.
The Packers arrived in Minneapolis with only 52 players on their roster. General manager Ted Thompson made the decision to release No. 3 running back Jhurell Pressley earlier this week but did not fill his spot. As a result, the Packers have only six inactives tonight.
Wide receivers Trevor Davis (shoulder) and Jeff Janis (hand) are both available on the 46-man active roster. Davis, who missed last week's game, was elevated to a full participant in Thursday's practice, and coach Mike McCarthy said he moved without issue. Janis will play with a club on his broken hand for the second consecutive week.
