Allison excited to be in pass-happy offense
GREEN BAY - In truth, Geronimo Allison didn’t care which week he got a promotion. Added to the Green Bay Packers active roster Monday, the undrafted rookie receiver is just happy to get his shot.
But, yes, Allison is aware it’s a good week to be a receiver in Green Bay.
He saw the box score from last week’s win against the Chicago Bears. Aaron Rodgers’ 56 — fifty-six — passes were impossible not to notice. Allison knows the Packers’ new pass-centric offense will mean plenty of chances for receivers.
Naturally, he wants to be part of that.
“It’s always fun when you’re throwing the ball a lot,” Allison said. “As a receiver, guys flying around and making plays, you’d love to be a part of it.”

Allison, added to the 53-man roster after Jared Abbrederis was placed on injured reserve, made plenty of plays in the preseason. He had six catches for a team-high 119 yards, including a 51-yard reception in the Packers third exhibition at the San Francisco 49ers.
But he became the odd man out on a receiver depth chart loaded with developmental talent. The Packers kept seven receivers after final cuts. Allison was No. 8.
Instead of a spot on the active roster out of camp, he signed with the practice squad.
“It was pretty tough,” Allison said. “You don’t ever want to get cut, go through that process. But it’s just the way my journey — and my life — is shaping out. I just have to embrace it and make the most of it.”
Allison could have cast his lot elsewhere on another practice squad. Instead, he stayed in Green Bay, never losing faith he’d get his shot eventually. Allison said he didn’t want to start over learning a new offense when he was comfortable with the Packers.
Now, that patience has paid off. Not only does Allison have a spot on the active roster. He gets to play in an offense with no shortage of passes.
“Football, period, is an exciting game,” Allison said, “but the more we throw it, the more exciting we’ll be. As receivers, we just love making plays. You just try to go out there and do that, do your job.”
