The Packers are rolling into the playoffs the way teams want to, playing their best football of the year while winning six straight games. However, Michael Cohen takes a look at the momentum carrying the Packers into the playoffs and what it may or may not mean going forward.
Confident though the Packers may be, teams that string together wins at the end of the regular season have not performed particularly well in the playoffs of late.
Ten teams have entered wild-card weekend with win streaks of five or more games since 2000. Three of those teams lost immediately. Four of them won just a single game. Two advanced to their conference championship games.
The lone exception was the Baltimore Ravens, who ended the 2000 regular season with seven straight wins. They rode their ferocious defense to four more wins and a Super Bowl title.
Ryan Wood looks at the situation with wide receiver Geronimo Allison and the tough choices the coaching staff will have to make in regards to playing time once Randall Cobb returns.
Michael and Ryan lead their notebook with Nick Perry and his production at outside linebacker since returning from his hand injury. Perry has played well despite the very large club he’s required to wear.
It hasn’t stopped him from getting three sacks in his past two games, including a third and 5 against Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford early in the third quarter. Perry stood up, took a few steps and petted his cast to celebrate.
“I just pet it because it’s been good to me,” Perry said. “So I just keep it going.”
