Charlie Mathys
Inducted 1977
For five seasons, from 1922-’26, Charley Mathys wore a Packer uniform. The 5’8”, 165-pound Green Bay West graduate later served on the first Packer Board of Directors and became a member of the Executive Committee.
Curly Lambeau and the Packers noticed the former Green Bay West and Indiana University star while he played quarterback for the Hammond (Ind.) Pros against the Packers in 1921. The next season, Mathys became the starting Packer quarterback.
After his playing career, Mathys became a successful Green Bay businessman and long-time member of the Packer Board of Directors.
