Tobin Rote, a number two draft choice, became the Packer’s starting quarterback as a rookie in 1950. He was the leading Packer passer in six of seven seasons, from 1950-’56. Rote also led the Packers in rushing for three seasons.
The 6’3”, 210-pound Rice University star threw for 89 touchdowns as a Packer. He rushed for 2,205 yard and scored 29 touchdowns. Rote was a fiery leader of the Packers through some of their most difficult seasons.
Traded to the Lions in 1957, Rote led the Lions to that season’s NFL championship. He played in the NFL, AFL and Canadian Football League through 1964.
