ALLOUEZ – The house that Vince Lombardi lived in when he first moved to Green Bay in 1959 is for sale.

Lombardi lived in the house at 222 W. Mission Road for about a year before moving to a new, custom-built ranch at 667 Sunset Circle, less than two miles away. He lived there the balance of his time while coaching the Green Bay Packers. Lombardi moved to Washington, D.C., in 1969 to coach the Redskins. He died of colon cancer in 1970.

The 4,395-square-foot house sits on a double lot less than a half-mile from the Fox River. It has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The listing price is $599,900. Laura Olejniczak-Carmichael of Mark D. Olejniczak Realty of Allouez is the agent.

Lombardi is not the only Packers executive to live in the house. Jason Wied, a former Packers vice president, owned the house before the current owner. The house sold for $475,000 in 2014, according to Brown County real estate records.

In yet a third Packers connection, John Wemple, who for many years published Packers Yearbooks, also owned the house.

The house is mentioned in David Maraniss' biography of Lombardi, "When Pride Still Mattered." Maraniss wrote about the end of the Lombardi family's cross-country trip in February 1959 from New York, "Green Bay was more a blur of white. Fresh snow was falling by the time they turned down West Mission Road in Allouez and spotted No. 222, the two-story Georgian house on the corner."
