Packers Morning Buzz: Lambeau Field fans have become 'less rowdy'

We'll start with JR Radcliffe exploring whether the fan enthusiasm at Lambeau Field has dwindled over the years and whether Gold Package fans (Milwaukee season-ticket holders) are less boisterous than their Green Package counterparts. New Packers coach Matt LaFleur has spoken about the need for a better home-field advantage in terms of crowd noise, and the team even trotted out a foghorn (which was widely panned) for one preseason game.

Radcliffe writes:

An explanation for changing crowd enthusiasm may not necessarily be solely related to in-game experience.

“I would say over the course of the last five years, I would agree the fans have become less rowdy,” said Mike Mertens, 37, a Bay View resident who attends a sampling of games in both the Green and Gold packages each year. “I don’t know if it’s because they’ve become less competitive. I would also say with the Green Package, you used to always see the same people. Everyone would go to all the games.

"People are getting older and television makes it a lot easier to watch it at home, but I think the bigger piece is the cost. Every year, it’s going up 5 to 7 percent, whatever it is. Is it really financially worth it? I think you’re trying to offset the cost a little bit (by selling a couple of games each year), and you lose that camaraderie around you.”
