Ha Ha Clinton-Dix: Thomas Davis hit on Davante Adams 'dirty, uncalled for'

Q: You've caught a few passes throughout your NFL career, so please enlighten us: What exactly is a catch? Do you even know anymore? Does the team go over what's defined as a catch during OTAs or training camp?

Montgomery: Yeah, I remember the refs came in one day during training camp, and we were talking about the catch rule and trying to get an even more clear definition on it. The point that I took away from it was the person that catches the ball has to define themselves as a balanced runner - as somebody who has secured possession and now they're moving on to the next phase after you make a catch. So if you catch the ball and you intentionally move the ball over the goal line, I would think you've established yourself, especially if you're falling to the ground. Really, I have no answer (for what a catch is). I'm at a loss for words. I have no answer.

Q: There are still two games remaining on the schedule, but how would you describe the season for the defense and yourself?

Clinton-Dix: I feel like we were tested as a team. I feel like we lost our key leader early on in the year, and we've been battling adversity. I feel like there's a lot of things we could've done better this year, a lot of things we still want to work on. But we fought to the end. ... I feel like we fought good. I feel like I did everything I could as a leader on the back end. A lot of injuries hurt us on the back end, as well. I feel like we fought hard and came up short.

Q: You play on the defensive side of the ball. What's your take on the blindside hit Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis levied against Packers wide receiver Davante Adams. Did you think it was a cheap shot?

Clinton-Dix: Oh yeah, of course. It was dirty, it was uncalled for. And for him being the player he is, when you see him take a shot at one of the potentially best receivers in the game, it kind of hurts. You expect a veteran player to make the right decisions. When you have a guy that's up for the Walter Payton (Man of the Year) award every year, a guy that has great character - he demonstrates and shows it on and off the field - you just expect more from him. He did come to me after the game and apologized to me. And he told me to talk to Davante for him. But I think that was just probably him trying to cover his ass. He wasn't really thinking about that at the time.
