Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will join superstar Packers fan Justin Timberlake, former teammate Jordy Nelson and comedian Larry the Cable Guy at the American Century Championship this week.
Rodgers, who since 2005 hasn’t missed the star-studded golf tournament in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada,is among 90 entertainment and sports celebrities who will compete for a purse of $600,000 Friday through Sunday at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.
A Rodgers and Timberlake paring would be fun — although perhaps not as fun as Rodgers and Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy. In the first round pairings announced for Friday, it will be Rodgers with Nelson and fellow former teammate A.J. Hawk.
Rodgers and Timberlake are friends and have vacationed together. Rodgers and girlfriend Danica Patrick caught the 100th show of JT's Man of the Woods Tour in Phoenix in March and hung out with him backstage.
Timberlake is a fan of Rodgers and the Packers. Remember the "Go Pack Go" he dropped during a press conference for his halftime show for Super Bowl LII in 2018 when a Boston reporter had asked if he would be pulling for the New England Patriots?
Timberlake has golfed the ACC three years and had his best finish in 2016 (his most recent appearance) with 21st place. He's paired with Steph Curry and Tony Romo for the first round.
Rodgers' best finish in the last 14 years was eighth place in 2017 — significant progress from finishing 58th his first year. This year's odds to win have him at 75-1.
Last year, Rodgers was paired in the first round with retired NFL quarterbacks Romo and Carson Palmer. Romo won the tournament, and Rodgers tied for 18th with Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen.
In addition to Nelson and Hawk, former Packers players Charles Woodson, Sterling Sharpe and Doug Pederson are also on the roster. Other sports figures include Romo, Steph Curry, Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Ray Allen, Brian Urlacher, Jerome Bettis, Terrell Davis, Mike Modano and Charles Barkley.
Entertainment personalities include Ray Romano, Miles Teller, Rob Riggle, “Today” meteorologist Dylan Dreyer, and Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney.
Practice rounds and celeb-ams are Tuesday through Thursday.
