Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes are back for a new season of State Farm commercials
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes are back for another season of State Farm commercials, just not together in the first two set to premiere Thursday.
The MVP quarterbacks, who first appeared together in last year’s football campaign, appear in separate 30-second spots with the character known as “Jake from State Farm.” Mahomes may be the reigning Super Bowl champ, but only Rodgers gets a canine co-star.
Rodgers’ commercial shows him playing fetch with a dog while talking with Jake about what he’s convinced is a special “Rodgers rate” for his insurance. The dog faithfully brings the ball back each time ... until Rodgers decides to go long.
It’s not the same dog as a 2017 State Farm commercial that also featured former Packers linebacker Clay Matthews, the theme song from “The Greatest American Hero” and a wayward drone, but can we all agree that pairing Rodgers with man’s best friend is a better choice than fictional sports agent Gabe Gabriel (played by actor David Haydn-Jones) from the “Agent vs. Agent” campaign of the last two years?
Mahomes’ spot has him talking about getting the “Patrick price” on his insurance while nonchalantly pitching bags into a cornhole board without even looking.
The commercials will air Thursday for the NFL Kickoff Game between the Chiefs and Houston Texans at 7:20 p.m. on NBC. They're two of five ads State Farm will unveil this season starring Rodgers, Mahomes and Jake.
Rodgers has a long history of working with the insurance company, dating to the series of “discount double check” ads that began airing in 2011. Mahomes was recruited in 2019.
