McCarthy praises Janis' consistency

Following are the highlights from Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy's press conference after practice on Tuesday:
Was wide receiver Jordy Nelson on a rep count upon his return from a hamstring injury?
Took it light on him today, being smart.
Was the team scheduled to not be in pads?
Correct
Why do undrafted players do well?
Have to look at process that goes into each draft class. Ted spends lot of time at that point, doing due diligence. Player instruction is our approach from Day 1. We have understanding of what takes to train young team. It's worked well.
Will quarterback Aaron Rodgers play in preseason games 2 and 3?
That's the way it usually goes.
How's rookie wide receiver Jeff Janis doing?
He's made a play every day he's been out there. Looks good. Hope we can get him out there Saturday.
Is rookie wide receiver Davante Adams's wrist injury a long-term issue?
I'm told it's not long term.
Are you OK with the depth at wide receiver, given the injuries?
You have to throw last week's game out. Have to be realistic about production in passing game. Been lot of consistency in practice with the way the ball is thrown and caught.
What do you think of defense?
The competition throughout the defense, it's going to be a hard cut to get to 53.
How do you feel about the depth at safety?
it's much improved. Sean Richardson, Chris Banjo are a full year better, opportunity to be core players on special teams.
How do you think Julius Peppers is doing?
I think he's doing good. We've asked a lot of him, we're not lining him up in one spot, he's picked it up quickly.
What do you think of nose tackle B.J. Raji so far?
Doing very well. We're doing what he does best.
How is rookie tight end Richard Rodgers coming along?
I was impressed with him in the offseason program and he continues to impress. Two plays from Tennessee he needs to learn from, but I like what I see from him.
What do you think of the return game?
Punt return, we have a number of guys. (Micah) Hyde and (Randall) Cobb have done it at high level. We'll give other guys chances. (DuJuan) Harris has had a consistent camp on kickoff returns and we'll give some other guys chances. Harris is an excellent body type for kickoff return, very good fit for what we're doing.
What's the philosophy with running back Eddie Lacy in camp and preseason game snaps?
His reps are up from last year. it's not my goal for his workload to be very high in preseason games.
Would you like backups to be return guys?
I have to get away from that type of thinking. When you get too cautious, negative things happen.
