Packers keep QBs Tolzien, Flynn; DL Thornton to IR
Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien both survived the Green Bay Packers' cut to 53 on Saturday.
The Packers held onto three quarterbacks on the active roster in their cut down to the league-mandated 53 players by 3 p.m. (CDT) Saturday, while parting ways with safety Chris Banjo, tight end Jake Stoneburner and receiver Kevin Dorsey.
Both quarterbacks played well in Thursday night's preseason finale against Kansas City with Tolzien completing 12-of-18 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns, and Flynn going 7-of-15 for 102 yards and two scores. Neither turned the ball over.
It's not a certainty they'll hold onto both. The Packers kept B.J. Coleman through the final cuts last year before notifying him soon after he was being released in favor of veteran Seneca Wallace.
The Packers maintained controls of all nine of their 2014 draft picks, including fourth-round linebacker Carl Bradford and sixth-round cornerback Demetri Goodson, who were both on the bubble.
Two undrafted rookies made the roster in defensive lineman Mike Pennel and outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott.
Former Packers' second-round pick Jerel Worthy was also cut by New England, negating the conditional seventh-round pick the Patriots would had sent to Green Bay had he made the team.
