Rodgers named NFL MVP by pro football writers

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named the NFL's most valuable player by the Pro Football Writers of America on Wednesday, the first of what could be multiple MVP honors.

Rodgers had one of his finest seasons in 2014, passing for 4,381 yards, 38 touchdowns and a league-low five interceptions while leading Green Bay to its fourth straight NFC North title. The Packers finished the regular-season 12-4 with the No. 2 seed in the NFC, and will travel to Seattle for the NFC championship game on Sunday.

His efficiency was especially remarkable this season. Rodgers twice went at least five straight games without throwing an interception. Inside Lambeau Field, he finished the season with 25 touchdown passes and no picks. He has no gone more than two years -- and more than 500 passing attempts without throwing an interception at home.

Rodgers is seen as the frontrunner to win his second MVP award from the Associated Press, following his first league MVP trophy in 2011. The AP will announce its MVP on Jan. 31.
