Mike McCarthy's brother dies at age 47

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy's brother, Joe, passed away Wednesday, KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh reported.

According to KDKA, Joe McCarthy, 47, died Wednesday after collapsing at a Pittsburgh-area gym. A medical examiner said he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead Wednesday morning. Joe McCarthy is a former Pennsylvania state Deputy Attorney General.

Mike McCarthy and his assistant coaches were scheduled to meet with reporters Wednesday in Green Bay, but the news conferences were postponed indefinitely.

Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy released the following statement Wednesday night:

"The Packers family was very saddened today to learn of the passing of Joseph McCarthy III, the younger brother of Mike McCarthy. Our sincere condolences are with Joe and Ellen, Mike and Jessica, and the entire McCarthy family.

"The McCarthy family appreciates the overwhelming support they have received, as well as the respect for their privacy, during this difficult time."
