Burnett's slide? McCarthy agrees with decision

A lot of things went wrong for the Green Bay Packers in the waning moments of last week's collapse in the NFC championship game.

Morgan Burnett sliding after an interception wasn't one of them. At least, not in the eyes of Packers coach Mike McCarthy, who spoke for the first time Wednesday since his team's 28-22 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The Packers were closing in on a sixth Super Bowl appearance when Burnett picked off Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson with a little more than 5 minutes remaining. Burnett had the entire left sideline open for a lengthy return, but instead opted to slide and end the play with veteran Julius Peppers giving him the "no mas" signal 10 yards down field.

The Packers' offense quickly went three-and-out and worked a little more than a minute off the clock after Seattle used two timeouts. The Seahawks proceeded to score touchdowns on their next three series to pull off the unlikely comeback.

"Those are decisions that are made in the heat of the battle. I agree with the intent of the decision," McCarthy said. "I clearly expected to move the ball and at least change the field position. The fact that Morgan went down, and then we give them the ball back on, what was it the 40? That's not Morgan's fault, and I don't think you go back and question that decision.

"Why he did it, I understand. The way we were playing at that point. Defensively we were in command of the game."
