Thompson: Jennings' criticisms wouldn't play a factor

PHOENIX -- When veteran wide receiver Greg Jennings was released by the Minnesota Vikings two weeks ago, some wondered whether there would be mutual interest in a reunion with the Green Bay Packers.

Jennings, who signed a five-year, $45 million contract with the Vikings in 2013 after seven productive seasons in Green Bay, told SI.com that he would welcome a return. But his criticisms of the organization, including questioning quarterback Aaron Rodgers' leadership ability and accountability, still linger.

When asked Monday at the NFL's annual meeting whether Jennings' parting words would prevent the Packers from considering a return, Green Bay general manager said they wouldn't play a factor.

"We're not that sensitive about things like that," he said. "Players are players. Players say things. Sometimes we make mistakes.

"And we have people like (director of public relations) Jason Wahlers telling us what to say and what not to say. And we still make mistakes."

For his part, Jennings said he had some regrets about how he handled the divorce.

"The way I left — if there was anything I would say I'm disappointed in, the way I kind of handled that. I don't want to say even kind of — I handled that situation," Jennings told SI.com. "Because I was — without coming out and saying it then — there was a sense of pridefulness to where it did hurt."

Reports have Jennings visiting Miami and Carolina, but so far no interest from Green Bay.
