McCarthy: Nelson will be 'fine' for training camp

Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media after practice on Wednesday. Here are some highlights:

On if Jordy Nelson will be ready for training camp after offseason hip surgery.

I think he'll be fine with the amount of work he's had in his rehab. This is all part of the plan.

On Scott Tolzien:

Tolzien has taken a step. I thought he did that throughout OTAs. I thought he had three outstanding throws in 2 minute. He's taken that step with his opportunities in an OTA practice environment. He'll continue to work. At the end, it's the preseason games where you want to see players take a jump, especially at the quarterback position.

On Cobb/Nelson together:

The relationship Jordy and Randall have is part of their success. They complement each other. Two different players but they're expertise of the offense. Jordy has been here the entire offseason. Randall can play multiple positions.

On OTAs:

Our OTAs have been going well. I think the flow has been excellent. They all start the same. You have to learn how to practice as a football team. You have new schemes and language. Tomorrow is our last install.

On next week's plan:

What we do in the meetings and number of things we emphasize will change. The competition more on the field will be highlighted more toward situations and move the ball periods.

On Brett Hundley:

He's doing well. He's on time. He's soaking everything up that he can. He's working with Aaron and Scott has been a big help.

On Packers not adding any FAs:

I think part of it is philosophy and the other part is opportunity. This is the path we usually stay on. It gives you confidence in your evaluation process. We feel good about the 90 guys we have here.

On retaining free agents:

I think our players like playing in Green Bay for a bunch of different reasons. Our tradition, history and resources we have. I'd like to think they appreciate the coaching they get. They see an opportunity to improve every single day.

On Jeff Janis:

Jeff is developing. He's getting a lot of opportunities. He's done some good things on special teams. There's things specific to his skill level he's good at.

On offensive line:

I think our offensive line is going to be better.
