Quarless arrested on suspicion of firing gun in Miami

Green Bay Packers tight end Andrew Quarless reportedly was arrested early Saturday morning in Miami Beach, Fla., after allegedly firing two shots from a handgun after an altercation.
Quarless, 26, fired two rounds, one into the air, after an argument with a group of women, according to Miami New Times, which cited a police report. He tried to leave the scene, hiding the semi-automatic handgun in a potted plant outside a restaurant, but he was apprehended, according to the New Times.
There were no injuries and Quarless was arrested at 5:35 a.m.
NFL.com confirmed the report.
Miami Beach police were unable to immediately confirm or deny Quarless' arrest, or to provide a police report.
Late Saturday afternoon, the Packers released this statement: "We are aware of the matter involving Andrew Quarless and are in the process of gathering more information. We will withhold further comment."
Quarless, entering his sixth season with the Packers, was a fifth-round draft pick out of Penn State in 2010. He started 11 games last season, catching 29 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns. His most memorable play came in Miami, in the final seconds of the Oct. 12 game against the Dolphins, when he caught a game-winning touchdown pass from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
However, Quarless' starting job was expected to be threatened by second-year tight end Richard Rodgers when training camp opens July 30. It's unclear how Quarless' arrest affects that competition.
For the Packers, it's been a tumultuous offseason following their shocking NFC championship game loss in Seattle. Quarless' arrest is the second off-field incident this week. On Thursday, defensive end Datone Jones was suspended by the NFL for the team's 2015 opener in Chicago for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
In February, defensive tackle Letroy Guion was arrested in his hometown of Starke, Fla. and charged with two felony counts for possession of a semi-automatic handgun and two bags of marijuana containing a total of 357 grams. Guion likely also faces a suspension, yet no announcement has been made from the league office.
