Andrew Quarless was the lone Packers player who missed training camp’s opening day for reasons other than injury.

The veteran tight end’s absence had nothing to do with his arrest earlier this month for discharging a firearm in public in Miami Beach. McCarthy said Quarless is dealing with a “difficult family situation.”

“Andrew Quarless, I do not have a feel for when he will be back,” McCarthy said. “He’s dealing with a very difficult, extremely difficult family situation right now. So he’s with his family and he’ll be gone as long as he needs to be.”

Quarless’ family situation has not been confirmed, but McCarthy’s tone was much different than Wednesday, when the coach said his tight end was dealing with a “positive” family situation.

Injury report

Still out: WR Ricky Collins (heel), RB John Crockett (ankle), CB Quinten Rollins (hamstring), OLB Mike Neal (hernia surgery).

New injuries: WR Jared Abbrederis (unidentified) left practice Thursday.
