Key starters out vs. Saints

The Green Bay Packers are entering their final preseason game with some significant players out because of injury.

Green Bay Packers receiver Randall Cobb looks on from the sidelines after getting injured during Saturday night's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lambeau Field.

The list includes five players who receiver starter snaps: WR Randall Cobb (shoulder), RG T.J. Lang (concussion), safety Morgan Burnett (calf), ILB Sam Barrington (ankle) and DB Micah Hyde (neck). Receiver Ty Montgomery (hamstring), defensive end Datone Jones (knee) and cornerback Demtri Goodson (knee) are also out.

Keep in mind, the Packers only announce players who will miss a game because of injury. Several other key starters – including quarterback Aaron Rodgers – are expected to miss the 6 p.m. preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints.

The Packers will have all of their tight ends, which could be the finale unresolved position on their roster. Sixth-round rookie Kennard Backman, Justin Perillo and Mitchell Henry could be competing for the open job as the Packers’ third tight end, behind Richard Rodgers and Andrew Quarless on the depth chart.

Goodson’s absence is also significant when it comes to the bubble. A sixth-round pick last season, Goodson could make the Packers’ roster for a second straight time as a No. 6 cornerback and core special teamer. However, his inability to stay healthy might give Packers general manager Ted Thompson reason to pause. Goodson also missed time earlier in training camp with a calf injury.
